Devotional reading for Holy Week

I find it is so easy to wake up on Easter Morning and realize that I have not given much prayerful thought and meditation leading up to the amazing truth of the resurrection. But the truth is that before Easter Sunday comes Good Friday. And before Good Friday comes a full and important final week in the life our our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Let me encourage you to set aside this Holy Week for some extended reflection on the final week of Jesus' life. If you prefer simply use your Bible and start on Palm Sunday (Matthew 21:1, Mark 11:1, Luke 19:28, or John 12:12). Simply read what happend on each day of the week leading up to Easter Sunday. Easy peasy lemon squeesy.

Another suggestion is use a devotional guide. Here is a link to a FREE eBook by John Piper called Love to the Uttermost. You can download a PDF or several other eBook file types. If you use the YouVerion app on your smartphone you can also subscribe to this reading plan/devotional by clicking here. We will also have some copies printed out and avilable Sunday morning in the worship service.

Love to the Uttermost is a devotional spanning from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. It is comprised of eight excerpts (plus one prologue reading) selected from John Piper’s vast 32-year writing and preaching ministry at Bethlehem Baptist Church in the Twin Cities. This devotional can be used for personal, family, or group devotions. It can serve anyone who seeks a steadied gaze to watch our Savior as he loves us to the uttermost. (from the editor's preface of Love to the Uttermost)

May God bless us as we continue to feast on His Word in 2013.
