The opening verses of Paul's letter to the Thessalonians show three things that characterizes a Gospel Church. A Gospel Church...
- ... is a community which is distinguished by faith, hope and love
- ... is a community which is loved and chosen by God
- ... is a community which receives and transmits the gospel
A "must read" artice on IDOLS
In 1 Thessalonians 1:9 the apostle Paul speaks of how the Thessalonians "turned to God from idols." It can be a challenge for many in our day to understand how we in a non-animistic context can still struggle with idolatry. To help in understanding idolatry of the heart I highly recommend David Powlison's article "Idols of the Heart and 'Vanity Fair'".
