Soma Serve Easter Morning 2008

A HUGE thanks to all who participated in our Easter Soma Serve event.  We were excited to serve over 100 homeless people on a beautiful sunny Easter morning.  When we arrived at 10:00 to set up we were encouraged to see some people already waiting in the courtyard for us to arrive since the Redwood Gospel Mission had been announcing the lunch in their daily services. By 11:00 the courtyard had quite a few people sitting around the tables enjoying the hot Starbucks coffee and orange juice.  Paul welcomed everyone, read the Easter story, prayed for the food and then we started serving.  By noon the families with children started coming so they also enjoyed a meal and took home plastic eggs filled with candy.

Thanks to the generous donations of Dean and Deluca and other businesses we had enough pastries, spiral cut ham, decorated hard boiled eggs, salads, and a huge exotic fresh fruit salad for everyone to eat and eat and eat.  The ham, hard boiled eggs, and fresh fruit salad were very popular because apparently those foods are rare when you are homeless.

A special thank you to the following businesses who donated food and supplies so we could feed a special Easter Lunch to the over 100 homeless people who arrived:

  • Starbucks - Cotati (next to Oliver's Market)
  • Dean & Deluca - St. Helena
  • Latitude Island Grill - Rohnert Park
  • Dr. Rob & Ingrid Macy at Macy Chiropractic - Santa Rosa
  • Sound Expressions - Santa Rosa

Since we had 25 people come to help we were able to have groups serve food as well as have others sit at the tables and talk and listen to people tell their stories.  And most importantly everyone served knew that they were loved.
